Grinding, better known as standard grinding, is the simplest method of connecting glass elements together firmly and tightly. A distinction is made between sleeve and core. This can be clearly illustrated for shisha smokers using the example of tobacco heads : In traditional shishas, ​​the head is the core and the shape of the head is the sleeve. In modern hookahs, the head would be the sleeve and the head gasket would be the core, so to speak. In principle, you always put the core into the sleeve, or the sleeve over the core. The connecting surface between sleeve and core is the grinding, visible in the non-transparent, roughened area, which is the contact point on both sides.

Which shisha cuts are there?

At Dschinni Shishas we only find Dschinni conical grinds, although there are other shapes such as the spherical grind, the cylindrical grind or the flat grind. The most common sizes in the shisha area are the 18.8 and 14.4 cuts. The first number indicates the upper diameter in millimeters, the second the length. The pitch of the standard grind is always 1:20, which corresponds to a taper of 1:10. We only use the 18.8 cut for all Dschinni plate grinds except the Dschinni Baba. Almost all hose adapters in the Dschinni stainless steel series have a 14.4 cut, whatever is marked. The Dschinni head cut is also an 18.8 cut and is used to attach a molasses catcher or other decorative accessories that are intended to beautify the shisha. This requires grinding, as the most common molasses catchers are made of glass. The advantage of the cut on the plate is that we can move and move the plate and the head as desired without having to transport the shisha, which is very useful if you want to build a new head, for example. We have a 14.4 cut on our hose adapters because it looks better with the shisha and of course because it makes smoking a lot more pleasant.

Genie Baba: The exception

The Dschinni Baba differs from other Dschinni Shishas with a grind of 24.2. This is because it has a larger smoke dimension. Therefore, Dschinni molasses catchers with an 18.8 grind do not fit the Dschinni Baba.

Solving shisha joints: These problems occur frequently

Many people are familiar with the problem that precisely manufactured cuts often stick together and can no longer be separated from each other. This is due to the adhesion forces and therefore occurs even if there is no contamination that can gum up and stick together the sections. Such "caking" cuts can usually be separated again by quickly heating the sleeve and possibly cooling the core at the same time. Since this difficulty occurs frequently, there is the possibility of protecting the whole thing with the help of grinding protectors, so-called grinding sleeves made of PTFE (Teflon). . These are pulled onto the core, which is then inserted into the sleeve. This prevents the joints from sticking together!
