High borosilicate glass 3.3 and crystal glass for unique glass products

High Borosilikatglas 3.3 und Kristallglas für einzigartige Glasprodukte

Tobacco bowls , shisha bowls , smoke columns , molasses catchers ... numerous shisha-related products are made of glass or also come in glass versions. However, not all glass is the same. There are enormous differences that become noticeable later in terms of break resistance, durability and cleaning . As with all of our materials, we pay attention to the best possible quality when using glass in order to deliver an all-round perfect end product. At Dschinni we therefore only use lead-free crystal glass or high borosilicate glass 3.3. But what makes these types of glass so special?

Shisha products made from crystal glass for a brilliant look

Crystal glass – the name itself sounds elegant and rightly so. In addition to the unique appearance, which almost sparkles like a diamond due to its brilliance when processed correctly, crystal glass also stands out from conventional industrial glass due to its material properties. The colorless glass is very stable and can be easily processed due to its nature. It also withstands small to medium temperature fluctuations well. The manufacturing process is very precise and the temperature curve is strictly adhered to during the melting process. Traditionally, lead is added to crystal glass to make it even more break-resistant. However, there is another way: Our crystal glass, for example, is completely lead-free and is still extremely robust. That's why we completely avoid using lead, which is harmful to health, when using crystal glass to ensure safe yet reliable products.

High borosilicate glass 3.3: The best on the shisha market

However, we prefer to use high-borosilicate glass 3.3, as can be easily seen from the large number of products we make with it. This special glass was developed in 1887 by the German chemist Otto Schott, then under the name Duran glass. Thanks to its high boron content, Duran glass is a very chemical and temperature-resistant glass, which is why it is primarily used in laboratories, chemical process engineering or in the household. The number 3.3 stands for the thermal expansion coefficient: at 100 degrees, the glass expands by 3.3% without cracking. We have also taken advantage of these extraordinary advantages for our shisha products. Regular shisha smokers in particular are familiar with the problem that certain shisha bowls build up residue and deposits over time that are difficult to remove. With shisha bowls made of high borosilicate glass 3.3 you don't have this hassle. High borosilicate glass 3.3 has self-cleaning properties and larger dirt can be easily removed with hot water as it can withstand high temperatures without shattering. Compared to other types of glass, it is much more robust, but at the same time even lighter because it uses thick-walled glass. High borosilicate glass 3.3 cannot quite keep up with crystal glass in terms of appearance, but in terms of material properties it is hard to beat.
